I would like to express my gratitude to all of you readers who still keep on opening my blog even though I haven't updated for a while (not sure if my grammar is alright :P). Starting my 2015 post, still with my English writings insecurities... well for sure that's my goal this year. Writing good English.

Talking about Plague Of Happiness.

By the end of 2014, the band already starts the studio works for our second album. Managed to complete tracking for drums, bass lines and most of guitar works. As usual since our work on USELESS ENEMY and HASRAT, the band starting offs with the standard drum tracks and followed by guitar tracks. Not sure the norm, usually bands will put bass track second... however, playing guitar in punk/rock bands you tent to pound the guitar a little bit harder. Avoiding DETUNING along the process. You might wondering where I get this, well it was in RANCID INDESTRUCTIBLE recording DVDs by BRETT GURAWITZ at SKYWALKER RANCH. We happily follow the process. Now left the HORNS tracking, a little guitar fill in, vocals and miscellaneous instruments.

Trying to make a video snippets out of the process, but haven't got the time to edit yet. 50% of the lyrics need to be rewrite and I guess with a new mix styles. We manage to have 14 songs plus with a cover songs, currently still waiting for approval from the band record label.

What to expect? we tend to have few experimental songs crossing between metal and hard rock with horns and reggae. A little bit more SKANK driven songs for those who love to dance their ass offs. Not forgetting the standard SKA PUNK songs like we do on our previous KAWAN and RESAH AWAN. Not forgetting the recent FEBUARI. There're few crossing genres songs, hopefully it turns out well.

So far there's no plans to put songs in video yet, so far the band already have FEBUARI in YOUTUBE since first quarter of 2014. Next thing for sure, the band will kick offs the 2nd album with a mini tour with other NYARING bands starting at the end of FEBRUARY.

Enough about Plague Of Happiness.
Travels plan. So, far I've been planning to have a 2 weeks THAILAND road trip this coming March. Me and my wife are blessed with a new born end of last year. I think this is the time we train our baby to our world. I always think that traveling will always be the best way to teach yourself and others to be more open minded person, respect to human and environment and to adapt with various cultures around world. Hoping someday, when my son grew up... he have the same passion and share his experience to others. Building a bridge between ever increasing gap between peoples because people nowadays are lazy to learn about each other. Judging and mocking others right on the spot before learning the background of any situation. Hoping someday my son will learn a lot about life.

Gear updates.

I need to put on hold on building my ES330 and amp head. Hopefully, before JUNE the building up process will continue. I've already buy the tuner and titanium bridge... well hoping everything settles then.

I've been using both amps more than 5 years each. Took them on tour, using them to record Plague Of Happiness materials since 2005. Based on my experience both amps are road worthy, however Marshall foot switch cable tends to worn out easily. 

In term of consumables item and maintenance, MESA tens to be more expensive then Marshall. Right after our second appearance in Rock The World in 2013, MESA fail on me after approximate 5 years of rigger usage. 

So, what's next... I'm planning to scale down to one channel amp and play around with effect pedals. I believe one channel amp are much more easy to maintain and consumables like tube and parts are much more cheaper.  Both previous amps having 3 channel... after more than 10 years I realize it's too complicated. :P hahaha

In term of sounds... I think I'm a little bit of a Marshall guy. Brown old school sound is something that I look for. In our recent recording project, I used FID (The Full Pledge Munkees) rig/JCM800 to lay down my guitar tracks. Frankly, I'm down with the sound... I'm Into it.

So, Marshall please send me one JCM800 2203 reissue please. :) hehehe

Last but not lease... the Obsession towards BMW R GS 1200 LC continues. :P
While entering CHINA with personal vehicle is still questionable, even though somebody have done it... I kind a fond about INDIA-MYANMAR opening their borders for tourist to cross. It sounds intimidating, but dodging your vehicle crossing from THAILAND to INDIA via MYANMAR sounds good to me. Northern East INDIA like DARJEELING should be one of the best riding itinerary to be recon with.

But for now.

Having a motorcycle itself is an adventure for me.

2014 rig.

End of last year, unfortunately, my Mesa Triple Rectifier worn out during one of December 2013 shows. So, the dream of having '2014 rig' flew away with the amp. So sad, I really2 like the casualness of getting the sound I need and road worthy, tough guitar amplifier. But, can't help it when the crowd dance and stomp the power supply and footswitch effortlessly. I not sure to be angry or cry in pain. :P hahahaha...

So, to make a point, based on this situation, the organizers should control on stage rather that let anybody swarm the band equipment and mic for sing a long. Even, THE BUSINESS and GOLDFINGER only let their crowd be at stage on their encore. I felt pity for other people who came to the show to see the band playing live but only see the stage full with crowd. Not forgetting the band played suck since there's no enough space and always being interrupt by the swarming crowd. Well, It already happens, nothing can change that... I'm became the victim of improper stage management.

Other that that, my rectifier is running on 110v instead of 220~240v, (american voltage). Using a step up for tour actually a risk to the equipment. I think, if the amp NOT running anywhere, i.e recording... shouldn't be any problem. It makes the equipment pretty vulnerable. I'm talking from my inexperience in power voltage point of view. :)

Well I guess, It just that I need something to write and bragged since now I don't have any amp to played with. huh...

Going towards rackmount.
Ever since I used Marshall in 2005, I was intrigue towards rackmount amps. But, there's so few of them and too expensive. Taking into consideration, I need to have a 3 channel amp to accommodate my songs. For upstroke, for power chords and occasionally solo. So, my amp legacy has been a Marshall JCM2000 TSL and recently MESA BOOGIE TRIPLE RECTIFIER. Both, have 3 channel... both have sweet crunch and distorted clean.

Few years back, I've a debate about generates sound using volume and tone knobs at my guitar with one of my closest friend and guitar guru Rithan of Deja Voodoo Spells. Arguably can't get my hands fast enough to change between crunch and clean for fast Ska-Punks songs. But, he's right... after an intense practise, I manage to do so. Even, It helps me on my recent show at RTW13, when my rectifier fail on me... had to depends on Marshall 900s. Not perfectly done, but it really helps to distinct those 3 channel sounds just with one channel amp.

So, the question is... do I need those high end amps? 3 channel, with 150watts... for sure, this time I need those local power 240v equipment. No more step up hassle. Rackmounts, YES please... the band equipment getting bigger over years and having a compact and powerful amps is essential.

OR is it just me being too swanky... :P

The diagram above, was my dream setup. Scaling down only for the amps, pre amps, wireless (currently AKS 400) and power conditioner... I guess the echo pro and RJMs is too posh. And Mesa in Malaysia is too overprice.

So, my saviour now is RE10.

Enough about travel plans, logs or stories... today I'm going to talk about my guitar and amp setup.

I'm fortunate enough to be able rocking in these guitar and amp setup. :) al least I'll try my best to drag my amp head around whenever I have a gig. It's a succulent feeling when ES being plug in to the Mesa and Vintage 30s busting the tube amp... personal choice if you know what I mean.

Since, I changed the Epiphone Gold Top for the ES335... I never looked back. Even during gig/shows if the ES needed to be change... I pray the crew give to it back as soon as possible. I just can't do without her (all guitar is a girl... just you want to know. :P).

So to make my life easier... my guitar world would be complete if. I have another ES335 cherry dot series fitted with Gibson Dirty Finger and the bridge and 498R at the neck. An ideal backup is the identical unit. ;) right?

And the AMP head is tucked in side a case with caster. All the effects will be arranged nicely in the rack... including the wireless and furman power supply. So, the roadies and crew just push em to the stage rather than lift the heavy head around. The effects, wireless and other rack equipment are ready... just plug and play. PLus point the furman power supply will protect the head if the power supply is unstable or somebody pull the power supply off (remember GEGO 2012)... :P sweet right?

Then... this is the future plan. I'm getting older every year... time to jump around the stage and shout is going to be ended soon. Having an acoustic guitar would extend my musical creativity... sit, play & sing... or at least I can sing to my wife... :P Why 12-fret taylor? the EQ is balanced... able to carry around since it is quite small. Somebody would ask about Martin Travel guitar... I have tried it before... but the sound is ridiculous. :P

Nah... Fender Twin Reverb 65' when the acoustic thing became serious. hehehe...

Taylor 12 Fret

After several test on other model, it is obvious this guitar is something that I looked for. Each guitar manufacturer have a distinctive sound... each models have their own characteristic. Even each individual guitar with the same model have a little bit sound different (talking about acoustic guitar).

I've the chance to test Jason Mraz Nylon previous on NS72 model... and was blown away with the feel and tone... however, I think I have a little bit of blues inside of me... nylon is NOT suitable for that. I test a lot bigger models like 714ce series and 814ce series... it's NOT suitable for finger picking... :P

but later after I get the chance test John Mayer Martins'... it really hit me on the spot. For me, it has balance tone and easy playability. There's one 2nd hand unit at Ebenex... it was half the rack price. My hands are itchy to take it back home... arghh but I can't. So, since it is limited... the chances is very slim to have that guitar. I change to Taylor 12 fret.

I think it is small than the normal guitar, the midrange is balance... and I love the headstock. Great for any kind of styles finger picking nor flat picks... 

So I have decided. :)

Weapons Of Mass Entertainment

Not talking about any labels or entertainment management that working on Superheavy or Dave Steward or Joss Stone... I'm writing about guitars. An acoustic guitars to be exact. A simple setup with one musical instruments and a good vocal really fascinate me. Like listening to Norah Jones  and Sarah Mclachlan singing only with her Piano, or John Mayer or Jason Mraz only with their acoustic guitar... somehow in my humble opinion showing good and strong vocal and musicianship.

Starting with Bob Marley redemption song towards, Gregory Griffin from Bad Religion on his folk project... and recently the legend himself Jimmy Cliff working with Tim Armstrong on his EP. It triggers me to do something on my own. NOT even comparing/competing myself to the greatest, but just to fill in my curiosity, trying to expand my musical journey.

Since, I'm a big looser on keys or piano although I really2 like em'... acoustic guitar came in just nice. :P This is a long project... you might have chances to hear them or NOT.

I'm a geek in musical instruments. So, if I like em' I will try my very best to get them... :P cutting my traveling budget, staying at home... cutting my food... name it. But it going to stop when I have somebody to look after to. So before that... bring it on!.

From my humble opinion good musical instruments will perform better with age and because of that, their cost of ownership get high over the years. NOT forgetting, brand names and companies that has been working on it since 'the beginning', they have the passion and the skill to produce the best. And most importantly it looks good on you even though you're a numbskull guitar player like me. :P

I have several phases before buying something, especially when its a big investment. First of all, obviously observe PROS, and best reviews. Since, guitar is a personal choice... I partially believe there's NO best sounding guitar out there. All based on individual... I never have the chance to test all. But since 2007, I've been working my hands on singapore based guitar MAESTRO... its nizam (STUDIO 47) studio guitar... a little bit of YAMAHA and MARTINS... throughout 2010 with STUDIO47s TAKAMINE... the urge of getting my own is encouraging.

I'm kind of person who doesn't like to invest something that I don't like and NOT being thankful of it. I rather wait for years investing on something that I like... and never talk about anything else BUT my investment even thou it's a pure crap... hehehe.

Recently I've been checking out TAYLOR guitars. Even writing to them about my intentions. So, based on their recommendation I should test few models before making any investment. Previously, I've test Jason Mraz model at SINEMAX Singapore... it was based on NS72ce model. I was blown away by the tone, comfortability and surprisingly its loud... the neck is NOT as wide as normal nylon flamenco guitars. They claim that TAYLOR nylon guitar was a good transition for steel string player changing towards nylon... and I personally found it true. Cosmetics wise... I really fell in love with the headstock. :)

So, I'm in dilemma. Love the taylor nylon sound and headstock but sometimes I like to bend the strings for blues... nylon is NOT known for that. So, browsing YouTube for solutions... and just this year Taylor launch 12-fret guitars... steel guitar joining at 12th fret with Nylon style headstock... I'm stoked. You can check out COHEED AND CAMBIRA acoustic performance at NAMM... sometimes claudio using 12-fret in certain songs. Putting Taylor advise aside... I'm checking out 12-fret at Bentley last Saturday.

The standard 12-fret model in the website cutaway body... however, I only get chance to test the non-cutaway model like the picture above. Like any other steel string Taylor above 400 series... they have shimmering signature sound which I really2 like. Its comfortable for strumming and finger picking... I even test it for open G tuning... and its sound really good despite the short fret and small body. However, it's really hard to play around fret 13 onwards... I don't know if the cutaway will solve the problem or NOT.

Since, there's a lot of Taylor on display I've the chance to get my hands on the advise model from Taylor.

So here goes 714ce... in LOVE enough said. :) That Western Red Cedar top giving the guitar warm sound making you sleepless at night. :P huh... so, far this might be the guitar of choice... but I need to test the nylon again just to make sure...

Taylor advice to get Nylon... so, here the models. Bentley say that they won't bring in Taylor Nylon, need to check with Sinamex singapore for that... till then, if I have the chance to test the nylon and 12-fret with cutaway... I might conclude what kind of guitars that I need.

Walaupun DVD live tu lebih kepada fusion jazz atau progressive/experiment, daripada situ aku start dengar orchestral music... buat dengar masa tido... :P hehehe sendiri tak pernah ler nak pegi philharmonic kat KLCC tu. Sweet.

Aku sangat jarang2 g konsert2 band luar2 nie.. sbb kebanyakan buat on weekdays. Al-maklumlah sbb kerja... tapi when it come to ol-timer, Green Day. Try... try carik masa dan duit untuk pegi. :).

Seating... :P iye.. bukan seat yang bagus sbb aku tak nampak muka Billy Joe, Mike, Tre, White, Freese dnn matika. Agak kecewa sikit sbb horns tinggal freese ajer... sbb aku agak suka ronnie blake.. :P

Fuiseh... lama giler ek tak update blog. Interview aku ngan Timmy pun tak antar2 (cheiss sorry tim). Tempat kerja giler babi busy lah... tulah suruh meniaga tkmoh. Kan kerja ngan orang macam ginie... :P

Tapi aku keje sini, dapat ler kawan2 jepun yang boleh di suruh2 mengirim CD kat jepang sana tue... lately sorang balik bawak CD2 nie. Redemption97 dgn BAGDAD the trenchtown cafe. Mmg bersuke ria lah aku ngan CD2 nie... Redemtion97 tu aku pernah tulis kat dalam blog aku bulan september lepas.

Tapi BAGDAD ni blum lagik... aku rasa band lama. Sbb berlambak CD2 dia kat dalam amazon (japan). Vocalist dia Mai tu pakai songkok ala Erykah Badu tapi suara meme' kelaassssss...

Sejak KEMURI disband... yang aku tau Hidenori Minami (Guitarist) pegi join Ken Yokohama (Ken Band). Fumio Ito (Vocalist) pegi buat satu lagi dengan SKAPARA release single "Pride Of Lion2"... Tapi yang lain2 tak tau plak gimana.

Tapi semalam atas usaha berkat mem'browsing internet aku yang tegar... aku jumpa Redemption97. Dulu pernah jgk terpikir, apa jadik kalau Potshot dgn Kemuri... ? :P

Bila Potshot disband tahun 2005... Kemuri 2007... Ryoji (Vocalist/Potshot), tsuda (Bassist/Kemuri), yuji Shimoda (Trombonist/Kemuri), Ryoma (Guitarist/Last Target)... dgn kawan kampung dorang Yoshio Taniguchi (Keyboard) form band nama Redemption97. Suka dgr Redemption97 walaupun satu lagu sbb diorang menggambarkan Japanese Ska Punk Era2 kemunculan Potshot dgn Kemuri 12 ~ 14 tahun dulu... :P masa tengah hangat2.

Fast blazing horns, complete with Baritone Sax, Tenor, Trumpet & Trombone... ingat tak mal masa zaman kite dgr cassette Keasby Nights 10 tahun dulu... macam tk leh angkat Horns section + kelajuan upstroke'nyer... :P hehehe tapi sekarang sejak dorang split Streetlight Manifesto sangat relevent dgn halwa telinga aku dari Catch22... tapi dua2 band sama hebat!... cuma nak bagi jeles jer mal.. aku sekarang ada "Somewhere In the Between" by Streetlight Manifesto... heheh jangan jeles... 1 2 3 4... 1 2 3 4.. huh.

aku dgr Big D dah lama kot... tapi nak get hold to their CD tu urghh sangat susah. Ada kawan2 yang cakap susah2 download ajer... :P tapi aku bukan jenis orang yang suka download2... mungkin sbb aku pun main music... release CD.. dan mengharap dgn release tu dapat memanjangkan lagi hayat band... jadik aku takut pada KARMA... kalau aku buat band lain... band aku pun kena jgk.. yer tak... :P pulak.. :P

Jadi masa dorang release "Strictly Rude" under label SideOneDummy label... jumpa kat HMV singapore, tak ada citer banyak... :P hehehe... terusan angkat! dan CD tu ada kat dalam kete aku ever since... dalam ipod... dalam segala2 nya... dorang terusan bawak distinctive kind of sound dari pada album How It Goes (LAX, How It Goes... aku dgr kat youtube)... Strictly Rude superb...

"The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings before local magistrates followed by county court trials to prosecute people accused of witchcraft in Essex, Suffolk and Middlesex counties of colonial Massachusetts, between February 1692 and May 1693. The episode has been used in political rhetoric and popular literature as a vivid cautionary tale about the dangers of religious extremism, false accusations, lapses in due process, and governmental intrusion on individual liberties.[1]
Despite being generally known as the "Salem" witch trials, the preliminary hearings in 1692 were conducted in a variety of towns across the province: Salem Village, Ipswich, Andover and Salem Town. The best-known trials were conducted by the Court of Oyer and Terminer in 1692 in Salem Town. Over 150 people were arrested and imprisoned, with even more accused but not formally pursued by the authorities. At least five more of the accused died in prison. All twenty-six who went to trial before this court were convicted. The four sessions of the Superior Court of Judicature in 1693, held in Salem Village, but also in Ipswich, Boston and Charlestown, produced only three convictions in the thirty-one witchcraft trials it conducted. The two courts convicted twenty-nine people of the capital felony of witchcraft. Nineteen of the accused, fourteen women and five men, were hanged.
